Community of Practice (CoP) Corner -
Leveraging social media to increase reach

LCI CoP leaders learned about the value of leveraging social media to increase reach during a virtual training on June 20. As LCI CoPs are attempting to grow in influence, optimizing social media efforts is a step in the right direction for spreading the word about Lean design and construction events regionally.

In the training, CoP leaders learned:

  • Differences between Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn profiles and LinkedIn groups.
  • Best times for posting and how often.
  • How to customize the branded Lean Coffee graphics and add them to social media profiles.

"The LCI Dallas-Fort Worth CoP has recognized the extended audience we can reach with our social media updates. From a marketing perspective, branding and consistency is so important as we are trying to reach potential new members and move full speed ahead. The training established a unified LCI theme and messaging and walked us through the different ways we can reach out to our market. It is exciting to see LCI focus on brand awareness with our digital audience," says Jennifer Lacy, LCI Dallas-Fort Worth CoP marketing leader and division marketing director at Robins & Morton.

IPD's first how-to guide
available for download

This "Integrated Project Delivery: An Action Guide for Leaders" will provide owners and other project leaders with instructions, not opinions or a sales pitches, on how to do Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). This instruction guide will help leaders determine whether IPD is right for their project and the steps needed to make IPD a reality and a success. Although this guide is not specifically about implementing Lean principles, it takes the premise that Lean and IPD are integrally connected and complementary. Target Value Design (TVD) and other Lean processes are explained in context of how an IPD team can implement most effectively.

"This guide will answer important questions about IPD applicability and how Lean thinking reinforces transparency and financial alignment, which is crucial to a successful IPD approach. Following Lean practices like set-based design, choosing by advantages and others helps define what the owner values so teams can work together to deliver that," Renee Cheng, professor at University of Minnesota School of Architecture, says.

Renee and the core team of experts who created the guide will be presenting this guide at the 20th Annual LCI Congress, and you can register to hear her presentation today!

This owner gained practical skills for improving project thinking at
Lean in Design Forum

David Dike, Senior Project Manager with Kaiser Permanente, attended 2018 Lean in Design Forum in May, and when asked to identify how he intends to use the knowledge and skills gained from the Introduction to Lean in Design learning session, he said he will use the knowledge "to improve project thinking with architects and general contractors."

Explore available LCI classroom education courses and consider applying to become an LCI Instructor to begin teaching owners, designers, general contractors and all Lean practitioners about Lean culture and tools.
