Words of Wisdom

Myth #4 of 5 About IPD and Lean: "Either owners aren’t getting best value or the team is not making a profit."
The Myth Busted: The survey showed 100% of owners had expectations met or exceeded and some project teams saw 20-30% more profit gain than with non-IPD projects. See video on 5 Myths Busted about IPD and Lean at leanconstruction.org/

The Unruly Project - Sven Bertelsen

Sven asks readers to forget about the “Know How” for now and find the “Know Why” in his new book, The Unruly Project, introducing a new understanding of the nature of projects. Readers will follow this so-called Lean grey beard from Greenland to Northern Russia to his son’s playroom as he brings new disciplines to the table like complexity and chaos to outline a fresh way of managing Lean Construction projects.

Look for The Unruly Project soon on Amazon as both a hard copy and Kindle edition!

Community of Practice (CoP) Corner

LCI hosted Managing to Learn: The Use of the A3 Management Process which was taught by the Lean Enterprise Institute in LCI’s Arlington, Va. offices. This two-day course was attended by a diverse group that included LCI Board Members, Practice Committee Members, staff and other Lean practitioners.

We took a deep dive into the A3 development process where everyone was challenged in developing a real-life A3 and then practicing the A3 roles of “Author” (owner of the problem), “Coach” (influencer/mentor), and “Observer” (keeping the group “on time”) in groups of three. To borrow a quote from American inventor, Charles Kettering, “A problem well stated is a problem half solved!”
