Words of Wisdom

From: Transforming Design and Construction: A Framework for Change, Chapter 14: Respect for People, page 78.
"A Plus/Delta is a simple example of a constructive conflict in action. In such a situation, an issue that might be perceived as a negative is instead framed as a delta, or a possible change to make the process better."

Respect for people along with continuous improvement form the two most important pillars of Lean. Sheila Ruder, HKS Architects, explains that respect is not the same as politeness or avoiding conflict, but rather is about engaging in constructive conflict that will help the team deliver the best project possible to the owner.

The Lean Learning Video series of 12 is based on key chapters in LCI’s first book, Transforming Design and Construction: A Framework for Change. You can watch this video and the rest of the series on the LCI website under Learning, Getting Started with Lean.
