Last Planner® System E-learning
is coming this spring to LCI

For the first time, LCI will launch an e-learning module for Lean design and construction practitioners to begin to understand and implement Last Planner® System (LPS) on their projects. LCI recognizes the importance of in-person learning, but due to busy schedules and location constraints, not everyone has the opportunity for classroom learning.

That is why LCI will release the LPS e-learning module this spring because e-learning offers:

  • Self-paced learning for busy schedules
  • Small batch learning for increased retention
  • Various forms of content to accommodate all learning styles

Stay tuned for opportunities to contribute to the e-learning material via surveys and updates on the official release date!

Calling 2018 LCI Congress Gemba Walk
sites in Orlando area

The 20th LCI Congress will conclude with Gemba Day, allowing attendees to tour an active construction project, a Big Room, a manufacturing site or an office space and apply what they learned during LCI Congress week, Oct. 15-19.

The 2018 LCI Congress planning team is calling on any Lean design and construction organizations with a possible Gemba Walk site in the Orlando, Fla., area on Friday, Oct. 19 to submit a Gemba site application. Preference will be given to sites:

  • Demonstrating Lean practices
  • Within a 45-minute drive from Orlando
  • With LCI corporate member involvement

Community of Practice (CoP) Corner -
Be a thought leader in your Lean region

Put your Lean knowledge to good use by joining your LCI Community of Practice (CoP) core group and start educating local project teams on the Lean advantage. What roles form a CoP core group?

  • Main roles: Leader, Vice Leader and Event Leader
  • Secondary roles: Outreach, Communication

Core groups are usually, but not always, comprised of LCI corporate members because member organizations are already supportive of their volunteer leadership role within the CoP.

If you're passionate about improving project delivery and would like to use your skills to help transform the industry, reach out to Denise Erminger, derminger@leanconstruction.org, and join an LCI CoP core group! Can't commit to a core group role? You can still contribute by attending your regional CoP events and sharing your Lean experiences.

2018 Lean in Design Forum, May 30-31 in Chicago - Owner keynote announced

Mark your calendar for 2018 Lean in Design Forum in Chicago, May 30-31, because Albert (Al) Manshum, Senior Vice President, Advocate Health Care, will be this year's keynote speaker. Al, 2018 LCI board chairman, led Advocate's journey to Integrated Lean Project Delivery®, including seven projects valued at more than $650 million, and he developed the first Master Contract using an Integrated Form of Agreement (IFOA). Prior to joining Advocate, Al was an architect for 10 years specializing in the planning, design, construction and management of health care projects.

Attendees will also discover Why Projects Excel – Great Design Enabled by Lean, a 2017 follow-up design study on 2016 LCI-sponsored business case for Lean construction research, which focused on why projects excel. Four designers will present 2017 research that used similar methodology by comparing "best" and "typical" projects as well as design firm-relevant metrics to establish a benchmark for performance and to reveal the impact of Lean methods.

Registration opens soon.

Owners find the Lean best practices they need at the 2018 Owner Forum
June 27 in Miami, Fla.

Owners face unique Capital Program challenges along their Lean journey but do not need to face them alone. The second annual Owner Forum on June 27 in Miami, Fla., is a chance for owners committed to Lean practices to meet and collaborate on how to improve project delivery outcomes. This owner-exclusive event will offer a workplace visit to see Lean tools like Target Value Design, a Big Room and a budget tracker for evaluating project health.

Bill Seed, Senior Vice President of Facility Design and Construction, Jackson Health, will share his private sector knowledge with the public sector at this exclusive knowledge sharing event. Design and construction firms should encourage their owners to learn more about 2018 Owner Forum!

KHS&S Contractors do
#valuedelivery through 5S

Sort, Straighten/Set, Shine/Sweep, Standardize and Sustain are the English equivalents for the Japanese term 5S, and KHS&S Contractors took this methodology to its Concord jobsites and created 5S gangboxes so that every item is labeled and has its place!

5-S Gangboxes – Every item has a Place!

LCI corporate members deliver value everyday they are on the job. To highlight their #valuedelivery, LCI has photos of our members implementing Last Planner® System, Lean tools and technologies and using Lean people and processes on our website.
