As Lean Construction Institute prepares for the 2017 LCI Congress, Oct. 16-20 in Anaheim, Calif., we found it beneficial to bring on a new face to help with the day-to-day adventures at LCI headquarters in Arlington, Va. We are happy to welcome our new summer intern, Alicia Huerta, to our team as we embark on our 19th annual LCI Congress journey. Alicia joined the team this past May and will be with us through early August.

Alicia, a Texas native, is a rising senior at Iowa State University, double majoring in public relations and speech communication. She is a founding member of the Eta Psi chapter of Delta Gamma Fraternity and volunteers for the Iowa State Club Baseball Team. Since 2008, Alicia has been volunteering with Dallas Youth Athletic Association (DYAA) as a volunteer coordinator and board member. As a volunteer at DYAA, she created her own scholarship foundation supporting the youth in her community as they embark on their higher education journey.

“LCI has given me a new way to challenge my workday. I have taken LCI Journey to Congress as a personal journey and cannot wait to see the outcome of our work!” Alicia says.

Alicia is excited about her adventure in Washington D.C. working with the LCI team. She is intrigued by what the organization has in store for her, and is taking a course on project management with hopes to get her certification. While she never before anticipated being involved in the construction industry, Alicia couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this community. We are all sure that her skills will be used to help Lean Construction Institute and the industry grow!

Her background in communications, project planning customer service, and her willingness to jump into our excitement for this year’s 19th LCI Congress is why Alicia is a great fit as our newest team member. Alicia can’t wait to learn more about our current members while also recruiting new members to join the LCI community. Her hope is to make this year’s LCI Congress an unforgettable learning experience for everyone who wishes to take a chance and follow the path toward Lean and continuous improvement.
