Two 10-year veteran Lean coaches and co-authors from The ReAlignment Group of California tell stories of how the Last Planner System™ (LPS™) has been used effectively in Design on real construction projects in institutional/educational buildings, commercial and mixed-use housing. They also tell stories of how LPS™ has been misused in design. From real life examples with numerous photos, they draw several key lessons learned from over two dozen design project examples.

Dan Fauchier is a Certified Master Facilitator for The ReAlignment Group of California with 10 years in Lean Design and Construction, facilitating, training and coaching over 150 companies and agencies in various principles, tools and techniques including Last Planner System™ (pull planning) in design and construction. A recently published book co-authored by David Umstot and Dan Fauchier, Lean Project Delivery: Building Championship Project Teams, is available on Amazon.com. Dan is a contributing writer for the book Megaprojects: Challenges and Recommended Practices, published by ACEC in 2010.
Andy Fulton – Vice President, The ReAlignment Group of California
Andy Fulton earned a Master’s degree from San Diego State University in Construction with a Lean focus, which started him on his Lean Journey. Since joining TRG, Andy has coached dozens of different project teams in the Last Planner System™ in design and construction, and helped project teams to understand and use Lean tools such as Root Cause Analysis, A3 Thinking and Decision Making, Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, and Rapid Improvement (Kaizen) Events. He is also our company Scrum Master. He has also co-trained over 50 people in “The Mindset of an Effective Big Room” at the 2017 LCI Lean Congress and acted as a Facilitator and Scrivener on numerous Alignment Facilitation sessions. Prior to joining The ReAlignment Group of California team, he spent 10 years as a Naval Civil Engineering Corps officer. He is a Certified Project Management Professional, Certified Scrum Master, and registered Civil Engineer with 10+ years’ experience in construction management and public works operations with a passion for helping teams excel and exceed their own expectations.
