Leveraging Co-Location and Lean Principles for Design Success


Confronted by an aggressive design and construction schedule with an additional challenge to significantly reduce the budget all while maintaining the desired scope and quality Sutter Health looks to lean integrated project delivery as the solution. By Leveraging co-location to house the entire project team on site coordination and collaboration is significantly enhanced. Some of the byproducts of having the project team co-located on site include constant access to key project team members, being moments away from the place where the work occurs, the ability to confirm actual existing conditions as well as enhanced access to the end users. This session will feature a panel discussion including the owner, architect, inspector of record and general contractor to update the progress of a 200-million-dollar program to deliver 100,000 square feet of expansion and 11,000 square feet of renovation leveraging an integrated co-located team. Using lean and integrated tools and processes the speakers will address the successes and lessons learned as they near their 2020 completion.

SPEAKERS:

Denis Stroup – HGA – Denis is an architect licensed in California and a core group member of the LCI Nor Cal CoP supporting training. He has 27 years of experience focusing on lean integrated project delivery and healthcare design. In his current role as a Senior Project Manager he is the design team leader of a multidisciplinary project team at a Co-Located IPD project for a major Northern California Healthcare provider.

Chris Burun – Sutter Health FPS – Chris is a Senior Project Manager with Sutter Health, where he provides leadership in the construction of larger, commercial projects, in healthcare. Mr. Burun has worked in the Construction and Facilities industry for 20 years and has collaborated on projects ranging from small Facilities projects to over $150M.

Brett Beagley – Rudolph & Sletten– Brett is a Senior Project Manager at Rudolph and Sletten, Inc., where he provides leadership in the construction of larger, commercial projects, primarily in the healthcare and higher education sectors. Mr. Beagley has worked in the construction industry for over 25 years and has collaborated on projects ranging in value from $5M, to over $150M.

Steve Billings – Steve R. Billings Construction Inspection and Project Management –  Steve is a licensed OSHPD IOR and DSA Project Inspector. Steve has worked in the construction inspection business for over 30 years focusing mainly in the healthcare industry. He has also been involved with project inspection services for numerous school districts, and performed independent inspection services for Public Works Departments. His projects have ranged from small facility projects to over $400M additions. He has collaborated on a number of lean integrated healthcare project.
