Introduction to P4 Planning led by Perry Thompson and Nick Loughrin
P4 will get your teams aligned to a weekly plan and better prepare them to reliably commit to and complete their planned work each week. P4 better prepares teams to effectively participate and contribute to the General Contractor’s project phase pull planning session. This session will teach you all about each step in the P4 process for preparing to pull plan:
• Process Map – Design through installation complete
• Pace – Visualize work zones takt and flow drawing
• Prepare – Think about the steps and map it out
• Perform – List the conditions of 100% satisfaction
Nick and Perry worked together on the Akron Children’s Hospital project from 2013 thru 2015. The project used Lean construction concepts and the Last Planner® System. The results were the project completed two months ahead of schedule and $60 million under budget. Nick and Perry have been good friends ever since, continuing to collaborate and grow on their Lean journey throughout the years. Nick was Perry’s Lean coach and mentor on Akron Children’s project. Perry says he will forever be grateful for all the learning he received under Nick’s humble tutelage on this project.
Nick Loughrin – The Boldt Company – Nick believes accountability, collaboration and innovation is the foundation for a successful project. In his Director of Project Development role, he is leading Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin on the $265M Milwaukee Campus Improvements Project. This is the first Integrated Lean Project Delivery project on this campus. Nick has spent over 23 years in the construction industry. He is a member of the Lean Construction Institute and is a board member for the Bryon Reisch Paralysis Foundation.
Perry Thompson – Parsons Electric LLC– Perry has been coaching & working to develop lean leaders throughout the company from senior managers, middle managers, project managers, to field leaders. He’s developing a construction leadership black belt program to achieve the corporate goal of becoming a “Lean Ready” subcontractor by developing lean leader’s companywide over the next three years. Parsons currently has one Black Belt (Perry Thompson), 12 Green Belts, and over 200 Yellow Belts awarded through the Lean Leadership Institute.
