Introduction to Last Planner®® System

This introductory training will include an overview to Last Planner®® System (LPS®) implementation.  LPS® integrates Lean principles and is based on conversation leading to reliable commitments by team members.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of LPS.  The training will include a hands-on simulation to reveal the importance of removing variation in work flow.


  • Overview understanding of each of the 5 levels of Last Planner®® System (LPS®) and how they inter-relate.
  • Understand the need for reliability on projects and how LPS® produces it
  • Understand the need to reduce variation in work flow and how LPS® supports this
  • Basic mechanics of the 5 levels of LPS

This workshop is offered in order to:
• Provide this LCI standard training module to CoP for the first time
• Expand CoP to those beginning Lean Journey, especially Owners
• Build on experience of CoP with LPS; co-facilitators sharing lessons learned


Sam Spata  is an architect with 25 years of executive experience as client advisor and practice leader for capital project delivery. His international experience includes a range of delivery modes, from Novation to P3. Sam is Owner and Principal of Method Lean, an independent Lean consultancy. He is an Improved Instructor with LCI and an approved CES provider with the AIA. To accelerate Lean learning and implementation, Sam Spata developed a unique framework, The Lean Progression©.
