Please join us we hear from architects on how Lean Construction has impacted their practices. Each panelist and Lean practitioner will present how Lean Construction techniques are used in their design processes and discuss cultural shifts within their organizations.

This is a great opportunity for design professionals to understand Lean Construction concepts applied to the design process and the benefits and changes to their practices

Denis J Stroup, AIA is a Senior Associate at HGA Architects and Engineers with over 24 years of experience, the last 15 years delivering acute healthcare projects in California.  He is often called on to head up multidisciplinary teams for larger projects in the role of a design team leader.  He possesses a strong leadership proclivity leveraging lean project delivery tools and methodologies in all projects he is involved in both large and small.  Denis is a current Core Group member for the NorCal LCI CoP who has had the privilege of presenting to CoP’s in northern and southern California as well as the National Congress in 2014.

Eric Peabody is a Project Director in the Health Care and Science & Tech markets at Taylor Design. His passion is applying optimism, reason, and creativity to architecture that promotes the advancement of society. His experience includes highly technical projects which involve complex integration of architecture, equipment, and building systems. His leadership and problem solving skills serve him well as a project director for complex clients. As a project architect, he get involved in the details of construction and I bring a practical approach to design and construction that focuses on collaborative problem solving.

Marianne O’Brien, FAIA is a Principal with SmithGroupJJR with more than 30 years of experience in the field of architecture leading projects and practices. She is recognized for her focus on collaborative project delivery through alternative methodologies and the application of Lean Principles. Her most recent speaking engagement was at a 2016 seminar jointly sponsored by P2SL, DBIA, and the AIA, focused on Lean practices. She was a panelist at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) national conference opening general session in 2011 and has presented nationally and internationally at Tradeline, SCUP, and AIA conferences. Marianne served as a juror for ENR’s Best of the Best projects in 2011, was the AIA San Francisco 2014 President and served as a member of Board of Directors for 5 years. Her leadership and management of UCSF’s Regeneration Medicine Building (RMB), made her one of the top 25 Newsmakers of 2010 by ENR Magazine. In the near future, she will be presenting at the Annual LCI Congress in Chicago.


Todd Henderson is a principal at Boulder Associates with 21 years of architectural experience, mostly in the healthcare market. A self-described ‘change agent,’ ​Todd led Boulder Associates’​ successful shift to BIM and now works to further lean-inspired transformation of his company’s culture and beyond. Todd leads Boulder Associates’​ San Francisco office and has an inordinate fondness for spicy food.
