Enterprise Lean Transformation (ELT) represents efforts to extend Lean thinking beyond the project site to other areas within the company as a total enterprise. These organizations have begun to view company-wide Lean deployment as a major enabler of project success by getting HR, finance, procurement, and other elements within the enterprise engaged. This positions the organization for success as all support functions for the project team get attuned to the need to embrace Lean thinking as is being done at the workface. People on projects too often are constrained by corporate culture, inflexible operating systems, and other issues stemming from an inability to see waste and promote continuous improvement. The LCI Board has designated this a new strategy to be developed among those of our members committed to pursuing ELT with LCI support. In addition, we believe one of the most important and fruitful ways that our companies can learn about and implement ELT approaches is by tapping into the breadth of knowledge and innovation available through the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI). We are collaborating with LEI based on their long years of experience at guiding firms in many industries through the ELT process. Their workshops and training programs are a great way to start.
